INTROSPECTION AND HEALING

AWARENESS AND KNOWLEDGE

Since prehistoric times the human being, in his quest for knowledge and the expansion of consciousness, has used sacred or entheogenic plants. Our Mother Earth has put these plants in different places throughout the world. Latin America is home to several, but two that hold particular use in our ceremonies.

The Peyote (Lophophora williamsii) is a cactus native to Mexico and the southern part of the United States. It is used by different indigenous nations of these regions; Huicholes, Tarahumaras, Mexicas, Navajos and Lakotas, to name a few. It is their sacred plant that governs their spiritual lives. They also use it traditionally as a vaccine and to fight different diseases.

The Ayahuasca (Banisteriopsis caapi) is a native liana, a type of climbing vine from the Amazon used by different tribes and indigenous nations of the South - namely in Ecuador, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia and other countries in South America. For these indigenous peoples, Ayahuasca is the most sacred and venerated of all their medicines because it is what teaches them to live well, to fight different diseases and serves as the vaccine for children and adults.

With the guidance of our teachers, we have raised and rescued this millennial indigenous wisdom to assist and help our people.

In our ceremonies we take these medicinal Sacraments safely and with great respect, always with a well-defined purpose.

The purpose always revolves around health, well-being, healing, awakening, knowledge, responsibility with oneself, and other intentions meant to uplift the self or the collective in order to serve the greater good.

This does not mean that if we take these medicinal plants, all of our problems will be solved.Rather, this medicine helps us take responsibility for ourselves so that we can make the necessary adjustments in our lives.

The ceremony lasts all night. The bonfire we light in the middle of the altar as our guide. This fire is the presence of the spirit, the presence of the harmony and love of the Great Spirit.

Tobacco is the first conduit we receive in front of the Sacred Fire. It is the first medicine we take in the ceremony. This tobacco is used to pray and present the purpose of the ceremony. We use tobacco to invoke the Great Spirit, to enter his house.

We take the Sacrament of the Híkuri or Peyote, which represents the grandfather, the masculine energy, the Sun.

We take the sacrament of Ayahuasca, which represents the grandmother, the feminine energy, the Water.

This balance between the creative duality of OMETEOTL, male-female, female-male, is precisely what we seek within ourselves: finding true balance.

We use the medicine of our songs, of our hearts, and the vibration of the drum. We play instruments, drums, rattles, we sing icaros, or sacred songs for healing, the songs tends to look for the effect of modification of the conscience through guiding vibration. They are truly prayers.

The first thing medicine does is to cleanse our physical body. It is very common for nausea and vomiting to occur, they are part of cleaning and purification. For this reason, taking care of ourselves and doing so with proper attention and intention before the ceremony is very important. A week before, the person must take careful watch of their diet, focusing on healthy food, fruits, vegetables and seeds. During this time, it is important to avoid irritating foods, alcohol, drugs, antidepressants, as well as to take care of sexual energy and emotions.

We pray and receive the Water that is the principle of Life. We recognize this midnight water as masculine water, our father's water.

And finally, at dawn we pray and receive the medicine of the sacred foods. The Water of our Mother, corn, meat and fruit.

The Medicine man or woman who guides the ceremony plays a very important role since they ensure that the ritual is aligned and harmonized down to the smallest detail, and that the proper conditions for the health and welfare of the attendees are met at all times. The person who leads the ceremony is offering his life for the attendees, for the ceremony’s purpose.

Prior to the ceremony, the spiritual guide has a private talk with each one of the people, to better know and best guide them.

Our path includes all people, all races, nations and people of the four directions of this Earth. It is our desire and decision to exist in balance and harmony with all that exists, in order to honor our relationships, in the understanding of the diversity and unity of the Great Family of Life.

Our Ceremonies are held in Tamoanchan, head of the Sacred Fire of Itzachilatlan.
